The martingale is designed to steady your horse’s head, and to help prevent him from checking it in upward movement. If the horse lifts his head high he will feel pressure on the mouth from the martingale. The addition of the bib helps to prevent the horse from reaching back to grab hold of the reins, it also helps to keep the reins closer together.
